EVERYONE
LOVES
ANDY
We all have a special place in our hearts for Andy Zeiberg! For those that don’t know the whole story, baby Andrew Chai Zeiberg entered the world on October 20, 1962. It was the days before ultrasounds, so when he was born with exstrophy of the bladder, the doctors rushed him into a series of emergency surgeries to save his life. At the time, the best way to save Andy’s life was to perform surgeries that has caused lifelong additional stress on his kidneys. If you ask his family, it seems that every few years, his kidneys would need a ‘tune up’ and result in about a week in one of Boston’s excellent hospitals. It’s why he ended up a Northeastern Husky, and eventually met the lovely Sharyn while they were Boston College kids. Medicine and lifestyle adjustments are a near-constant, and we’ve known for awhile that there would come a point where he would need a donor kidney. But, Andy is so much more than a man with a bag full of pill bottles!
Over the years, Andy has been a loving son, husband, father and father-in-law, an enthusiastic camper at Camp Mohawk in the Berkshires (inspiration for Wet Hot American Summer!), a Boy Scout leader, security guard to the stars at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, a lawyer for countless juveniles in need of an understanding adult in their corner, and so much more. This all goes without mentioning his loving ties to his brothers of Zeta Beta Tau, many of whom have been ‘frat uncles’ for Sam, Sarah, and Harrison and brothers to Sharyn. And, how can we forget those dancing skills? Axle Andy need only hear a few chords of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” before he’s dazzling the dance floor. He’s also been a Mason and is currently a Lion.
We want Andy to be around for many more years, and the best way to ensure that will happen is through an organ donation. But, we know that is not an option for everyone. So, we’re including some other ways that our friends, family, and chosen family can volunteer time, money, spiritual support, and more while we navigate the challenging next chapter of Andy’s health journey.
